Innovative Learning Grants

The excitement and energies surrounding new growth aren’t limited to springtime. Fall 2024 will yield an abundance of creative ways to plant the seeds of learning opportunities for Tomball ISD students.

More than 90% of teachers spend their own money on school supplies, according to the National Education Association, the largest teachers’ union in the country. …The union estimated that teachers spent $800 out of pocket for the 2023-24 school year. Chalkbeat.org

Tomball Educational Foundation’s Innovative Learning Grants encourage and facilitate Tomball Independent School District’s efforts to promote higher-than-average levels of student learning. The grants can provide financial support for innovative, creative, and un- or under-funded programs and projects. Teachers, administrators, and support staff use the grants to enhance student academic performance and support the goals of the District/Campus Improvement Plan.

Last year, Tomball Education Foundation awarded thirty-five grants totaling $125,430 to 84 recipients in the Tomball ISD. The grant applications and awards were announced in fall 2023 and distributed by TEF volunteers February 2024.

  • Tomball High School
  • Tomball Junior High
  • Tomball Star Academy
  • Wildwood Elementary
  • Willow Creek Elementary
  • Willow Wood Junior High

Information and applications for Innovative Learning Grants are available through October 18, 2024. This TEF program awards teachers, administrators, and support staff the funding they need to develop projects and instructional approaches that can promote higher levels of learning.

Of the 1,200 school districts in Texas, Tomball Independent School District ranks in the top twenty Best School Districts in Texas. One reviewer explored why Tomball schools have received top awards and said one reason is Tomball ISD is constantly seeking improvement/expansion. Another reason is financial support. Additional funding provided by TEF leads to “better student outcomes, including higher test scores, increased graduation rates and other indicators of student achievement.”

In September 2024, EdTech Magazine reported the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund has now ended, so K–12 students and teachers relying on technology in the classroom may suffer. The Texas American Federation of Teachers says more than $4 billion in state funding is currently delayed while 73% of Texas schools are underfunded.
