Do You Want To Give or Get Happiness? Volunteer.

Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they have the heart. Elizabeth Andrew

Volunteers aren’t people simply looking for something to do. They are people who prioritize helping others. The Hebrew word “mitzvah” has many translations, but one definition is that we are obligated to be a blessing to others in need. Outside of its religious connotations, you are a blessing because your volunteerism makes others happy.

5 Reasons to Volunteer

Research has shown that volunteering doesn’t only make others happy. Volunteering makes us happier, too. Some of the benefits of volunteering are:

  1. A greater sense of purpose is achieved when you volunteer.
  2. Physical health is reportedly better among volunteers.
  3. Valuable skills can be learned through volunteering.
  4. Volunteers have greater self-confidence and improved mental health.
  5. When you join others in volunteering, new, positive relationships can be formed and existing relationships strengthened.

Volunteers Strengthen Communities

Communities with many volunteers are more dynamic; they are better places to live. Children do better in school. Northwest Harris County’s above-average quality of life is a factor in the current real estate development and business boom; our communities are stronger because of people willing to help each other.

Tomball Education Foundation is an all-volunteer organization and our volunteers are the powerful forces that drive fundraising efforts every year. TEF volunteers do everything from providing event refreshments and cleanup to organizing activities and serving on the board of directors.

Become a TEF Volunteer

TEF volunteers promote higher levels of student learning and they do it with style! Our volunteers quietly assist financially challenged families’ kids with Stuff The Bus school supplies. TEF volunteers joyfully and loudly blow the eTrain whistle when we reward our superior Tomball ISD educators with Innovative Learning Grants. And because TEF volunteers are happy to donate their time and about building better futures for Tomball students, it’s a win-win.
