It’s said that if your actions inspire others to learn more and become more, you are a leader. Newly elected Tomball Education Foundation President Kristy McCoy fits every definition of a leader, and her effectiveness is based on values and experience. McCoy is new to the role of TEF President but is no newcomer to the Tomball Education Foundation and its good works.
She left teaching for a full-time position as a homemaker and mom to three teenagers. Her 16-, 14-, and 13-year-old kids keep her on the go, but she still manages to volunteer at a local junior high school as well as serve as TEF’s president.
She previously served 2 years as TEF president, so she knows the demands and rewards of this job. McCoy was a founding board member on the marketing committee, created and currently chairs the Stuff The Bus program, has served the executive board as parliamentarian and secretary, and served three years on the program committee. Her values are closely aligned with TEF’s mission.
“I am a former educator . . . I taught junior high and high school English, so I feel strongly about the importance of amazing, innovative ideas in education. We should foster these ideas because traditional funding doesn’t cover them,” she continued.
The Tomball Education Foundation is one of the community’s most successful nonprofit organizations, thanks to TEF members and leaders volunteering their time and talents. Donations to TEF are an investment in our future; students can develop an ongoing love of learning and achieve more academic successes while Tomball cultivates a new generation of educated Texans.
One of Tomball Education Foundation’s most successful fundraising events is the Boots & Bling Gala. This annual event is a social highlight for many attendees and is the largest TEF fundraiser. President Kristy McCoy says their marketing team does a great job, and this year’s Boots & Bling “raised a lot of money for our grants!” It was held November 21, 2024 at Majestic Oaks.
Boots & Bling’s fundraising efforts drive the annual eTrain Celebration. This year, Tomball ISD educators and personnel will once again be rewarded with grants for educational projects to help fulfill their ideas and projects.
Stuff The Bus is another dynamic TEF initiative funded by donations. You may be familiar with the program: Backpacks full of supplies are distributed to students from financially challenged homes. But you may not know that the support for these kids is ongoing.
Students need school supplies year-round. “We take care of kids throughout the school year,” said President McCoy. “And some of our supporters request their donations be used for classroom purchases that may fall outside of regular school supplies.”
The Tomball Independent School District (TISD) is seeing unprecedented growth during a time of national and statewide educational issues. Tomball Education Foundation hosts the State of the District, an event offering community and business leaders an opportunity to learn more about Tomball schools. State of the District is also a forum that shares information about TISD’s challenges and opportunities as well as the previous year’s successes and future goals.
The featured speaker is Tomball ISD Superintendent Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora. This year’s March 28, 2025 luncheon will also celebrate Dr. Salazar-Zamora’s eighth anniversary of service and leadership in Tomball. EIN Presswire reported the National Superintendent of the Year award recipient “…has elevated Tomball ISD into the Top Ranked School District in the Houston area.”
The rapid growth of this area’s economy and population only propels Tomball ISD volunteers to work harder. “We have grown rapidly, and we plan to continue to grow,” says President Kristy McCoy. As a dedicated leader with a drive to help Tomball students attain a superior education during a time when other schools struggle, TEF President Kristy McCoy will continue to attract dynamic volunteers and caring donors.
