Not so long ago, backpacks were used only for adventures. Hiking, camping, traveling… Backpacks signaled we were having a new experience. Today’s students use backpacks for adventures in education. The value of a child’s educational journey and positive school experiences can often depend on backpack supplies.
This year Tomball Independent School District Education Foundation will again challenge our community to give back by giving backpacks and other items to students from economically challenged environments. These donations can level the educational playing field for many kids.
It’s more than pencils and paper! Studies have proven that children with their own school supplies can have:
- Better attitudes and classroom behaviors
- Enhanced self-image
- Improved grades
- Increased creativity
- Increased eagerness to learn
- Learning eagerness
The Tomball Education Foundation is already developing its 2023-24 school year Stuff The Bus campaign. Donations will serve all Tomball ISD schools and families. A complete list will be shared in August, but some of the needed items include:
- New fall/winter clothing with tags still attached
Examples: jackets, jeans, socks, underwear - Non-perishable foods
Examples: individually wrapped snacks, ramen noodles, soup - School supplies
Examples: backpacks, headphones, basic school supplies - Toiletries
Examples: unopened/sealed body wash, shampoo, deodorant, soap
This year’s flagship donor supporting local students is Baker Hughes of Tomball, the global energy technology company with a community heart. We are grateful for their generous donation of supplies-filled backpacks for Tomball ISD.
